Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
Solar PV panels are made up of wafers of silicon trapped between layers of glass, which is then coated in an anti-glare film. Sunlight hits the panels and starts a reaction by energising the electrons within the silicon solar cells. As they move and bump into one another they create a direct current (DC) of electricity. This power then passes through a solar inverter, transforming it to alternating current (AC). The AC solar power is then used instantaneously by your business. Any excess solar electricity is then exported back to the grid, alternatively any excess energy can be stored in a battery, which can then be used at a later time.
Do I need planning permission?
This is dependant upon the type of system you would like, All ground-mounted solar systems will need full planning permission. If you opt for a roof mounted array, most planning authorities class this is permitted development (so you don’t need planning permission). However, it is always best to check with your local planning department before hand. Our in House team of designers will clarify this on your behalf.
Do I need Three phase electricity?
Systems over 10kW will require a three phase incoming supply from the grid. Our expert design teams will be able to help you Get in touch with a member of our technical team for more information.
How long will the installation take?
The duration of every installation will be different from the last, largely due to the fact that all of our installations are bespoke. Different factors have to be taken into consideration, such as size of the system, your business energy requirements, G99 application and testing, and potentially the requirement for planning. In general, from start to finish your solar PV system could take anywhere between one and four months. However, once all of the paperwork has been checked off, and the install begins our qualified installation team can roughly install a 50kWp array in just four days.
When first being considered, principles of the new domestic system, the technologies involved, and length of useful life were carefully and meticulously explained to us by one of the company directors.
Then, with decision made to continue, high quality panels, converter unit, electronics and computer links were all quickly and efficiently installed by their expert staff.
To date our system has run trouble free for over 10 years, and is still highly effective, returning a steady flow of benefits.
As solar energy technologies have advanced, so has the breadth of skills and knowledge of this family run company, which successfully serves a wide range of private, commercial and industrial interests and enterprises.”
